COVID-19 Workplace Requirements
Phase 1.5
Reopening Mary Wayte Pool with COVID-19 Plans that allow participation in Aquatic Activities per the update by Governor Inslee on June 9, 2020.
Prior to reopening all pools are required to develop and post at each site a comprehensive COVID-19 exposure control, mitigation, and recovery plan. This plan includes policies regarding the following control measures: PPE utilization; on-site social distancing; hygiene; sanitation; symptom monitoring; incident reporting; site decontamination procedures; COVID-19 safety training; exposure response procedures; and post exposure incident recovery plan. A copy of the plan must be available for inspection by state and local authorities.
COVID-19 Site Supervisor
- OCA will designate an on-site COVID-19 Supervisor for all hours of operation. Supervisor must always be present during all aquatic activities.
COVID-19 Safety Training
- Prior to opening the facility and allowing activities to occur, all staff will be required to undergo safety training to explain protective measures. This will include logging all participants in programs, temporal scans of all participants and staff, social distancing measures as well as traffic patterns into and out of the building during programming, participant drop off and pick up locations and safe social distancing of any spectators.
- Training will be documented to ensure all staff have been given the most current information.
- Weekly staff briefings will be conducted on the most current safety protocols
- COVID-19 safety requirements will be posted at the pool. A printed copy and online access will be available for customers to read
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Employer Provided
- OCA will provide disposal gloves as well as reusable face shields and face masks to all employees and provide disposable masks to participants they forgot to wear one into the facility.
- Employees will be required to wear masks at all times and face shields when working directly with swimmers in the water. Masks should not be worn in the water.
- Employees will be assigned face shields and reusable masks. Face shields will be cleaned after each session and masks will be replaced each day.
- OCA will provide all lifeguard staff with safety equipped fanny packs that will include gloves, pocket masks for CPR, and gauze and band aids for first aid.
Sanitation and Cleanliness
- Soap will be available at all sinks
- Staff will be expected to wash their hands frequently throughout their shifts.
- Hand sanitizer stations will be available for staff to use throughout their shifts. We will also have hand sanitizer stations for customers and participants.
- Drinking fountains will not be available for use on the pool deck.
- The water bottle filler in the lobby will be available, participants will be required to provide their own water bottles. Wipes will be available to clean any touched areas.
- Vending machines will not be available for use.
- Required hygiene practices will be
posted in all staff and customer areas as well:
- washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
- use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol,
- cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces such as workstations, keyboards, telephones, handrails, machines, shared tools, doorknobs;
- covering mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing as well as other hygienic recommendations by the CDC.
- Cleaning schedule will be posted in the pool office and signed off by employees when completed.
- Disinfectants will be made available to workers throughout the pool and cleaning supplies will be frequently replenished.
- Disinfection of all common areas every 30-minutes including all restrooms, locker rooms, handrails, door handles, and bleacher area.
- If an employee is feeling sick and goes home, the area where that person was working should be immediately disinfected and all staff working with the affected employee will be notified.
Employee Health/Symptoms
- OCA currently has a no tolerance for illness policy. If an employee is sick, they must remain at home after notifying their immediate supervisor. If an employee has been in close contact with a confirmed positive case, notify their supervisor immediately and do not come in to work. If an employee develops symptoms of acute respiratory illness, they must seek medical attention and inform their supervisor.
- If an employee has a family member at home with COVID-19, notify your supervisor immediately and do not come in to work.
- Employees will have their foreheads scanned upon their arrival at work with a temporal thermometer of the employee has a temperature above 100.4 degrees, they will be sent home.
- Employees will need to answer a Covid-19 symptoms questionnaire. If answer yes to any of the questions the employee will be sent home and asked to self-quarantine for 14 days or until they receive a negative Covid-19 test.
- Questionnaire and temperature check will be recorded daily and kept in the pool managers office. HIPPAA rules will be followed for employee confidentiality.
- Staff that self-identify symptoms of fever, coughing, or shortness of breath during or after their shift should notify their supervisor and discuss whether or not to self-quarantine for 14-days.
- If staff have symptoms of acute respiratory illness (i.e. fever, cough, shortness of breath), they must stay home and not come to work until free of symptoms for at least 72-hours as recommended by the CDC.
- Any employee confirmed to have COVID-19 infection we will inform other staff and customers of the possible exposure and will have to maintain confidentiality as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act we will not disclose the name of the individual. We will follow all recommendations of the CDC for possible exposure.
- If we were informed of a positive Covid-19 employee or patron who was at the pool, we will close the pool for 24 hours to completely disinfect. We will track who that person was in close contact and inform them of the exposure.
Patron Protocol
- To increase social distancing all participants must arrive at the facility in swimming attire. Patrons will not be allowed to change at the pool.
- We will ask that patrons are dropped off at the front door and that only the patron to enter the pools.
- All participants will be required to sign a waivers, have temperature checked and go through Covid-19 screening before they may enter the pool. These waivers will be kept in a binder in the pool office.
- Any equipment needed for participation in activities must be brought from home. This includes caps and googles. The pool will not be providing fitness training equipment.
- Locker rooms will be closed. Patrons will be directed to use lobby restrooms only. No changing in the restrooms.
- On deck showers will be available for all participants prior to entry into the pool.
- Racks and shelves will be provided for participants to store their belongings.
- All tables and chairs in the lobby will be removed and stored to discourage congregation in those areas.
- Swimmers will be required to exit the facility immediately following completion of their swim to reduce gathering on the pool deck.
- Staggered exiting of the pool will be necessary if swimmers finish at the same time. Unless in same family social distancing will be required for leaving the facility.
- All competition pool participants will be required to exit the building via the west door. Shallow pool participants must exit the building through the east door.
- Once patrons have exited, they are asked to go directly to their vehicles or rides so not to gather in the parking areas.

- Any spectators will be required to maintain a six-foot distance from any other spectators. Bleachers will have designated seating demarcations and social distancing will be strictly enforced. There will be no spectators allowed on the pool deck.
This situation is developing rapidly, and new information is being released daily. We are diligently following the updates provided by the King County Health Department and the CDC.
